Meet the Camp Evergreen Family

Our counselors are energetic, fun-loving, Christian college students.

They have been carefully interviewed and chosen based on their character and mentorship abilities. Many of the Camp Evergreen staff members are campers who fell so in love with Evergreen that they had to find a way to continue to come back summer after summer. Some staff members have even been married on property. Many more have been married by the long term Camp Pastor, Toby Grady.

Campers are placed in a cabin with at least one Counselor and one Junior Counselor or Counselor-in-Training for a ratio of at least two staff members per eight campers. Staff members are recruited from college campus ministries and go through both a background check and a drug test prior to employment. All lead staff attend a full week of staff training prior to the beginning of camp.

Counselors

Counselors (age 20, or have completed one year of college) are responsible for helping to run weekly children’s camps as well as weekend family camps. Duties include primary responsibility for a cabin of 6-8 campers, leading cabin devotions, leading activities and games and assisting with meal preparation.

Junior Counselors

A Junior Counselor is a returning Counselor-in-Training. Both are high school aged staff members. Many of our high school students are former campers who just couldn't leave Camp Evergreen out of their summer plans! Our high school staff members serve as support to cabin counselors and help with kitchen clean-up.

Counselors-in-Training

Counselors-in-Training (first year staff) and Junior Counselors (return staff) are rising 10th-12th grade students who are responsible for helping to run weekly children’s camps. Duties include living in a cabin and assisting head counselor in caring for 6-8 campers, assisting in activities and games, and assisting meal clean-up.
